S (“Subu”) V Subramanian is a Professor of Population Health and Geography at Harvard University, and Director of a University-wide Initiative on Applied Quantitative Methods in Social Sciences. He was also the Founding Director of Graduate Studies for the interdisciplinary PhD program in Population Health Sciences. He received his under- and post-graduate training at the University of Delhi, and completed his PhD in geography from the University of Portsmouth, UK. Working in collaborations with scholars across the world, he has published over 600 articles, book chapters, and books in the field of social and contextual determinants of health, health inequalities in India, and applied multilevel statistical models. He has consistently been included in the Highly Cited Researchers (top 1% of cited publications in Web of Science) list since 2015. His current research interests is developing and applying data science approaches for precision public policy in the context of health, nutrition and development. As an educator, Subu was the first to develop a course on the concept and application of multilevel statistical methods at Harvard, which he has been successfully teaching at Harvard since 2001, as well as around the world. Vikram Patel is The Pershing Square Professor of Global Health and Wellcome Trust Principal Research Fellow at the Harvard Medical School. He co-leads the Global Mental Health@Harvard initiative. His work has focused on the burden of mental disorders, their association with social disadvantage, and the use of community resources for their prevention and treatment.
He holds Honorary Professorships at the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, the Public Health Foundation of India, and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (where he co-founded the Centre for Global Mental Health and the Mental Health Innovations Network). He is a co-founder of Sangath, an Indian NGO which won the MacArthur Foundation’s International Prize for Creative and Effective Institutions in 2008 and the WHO Public Health Champion of India award in 2016. He is a co-founder of the Movement for Global Mental Health. In this capacity, he leads and provide technical and strategic oversight to the Council’s innovative research, evaluation, and monitoring efforts in the country. Dr. Saggurti brings almost 20 years of experience in the program and policy- oriented research and evaluations – most of it spent in managing, directing and leading research in the areas of sexual and reproductive health in India. Dr. Menon is Theme Leader for South Asia Nutrition Programs in IFPRI’s Poverty, Health and Nutrition Division. In her work in India, she directs POSHAN (Partnerships and Opportunities to Strengthen and Harmonize Actions for Nutrition in India), an initiative to support better use of evidence for nutrition in India. She conducts implementation research on scaling up maternal and child nutrition interventions, including on programs such as women's self-help groups. In addition to her research, Dr. Menon co-convenes a global nutrition policy course with the Institute for Development Studies in the UK, and has designed and taught many adaptations of this course in India as well.
